Aerial and Drone Photography, Richmond VA
FAA-licensed and insured aerial photography across Virginia, included in most shoots for architects, contractors, developers, and property owners.
I am a licensed and insured remote pilot, and aerial coverage is part of how I photograph buildings across Richmond and Virginia.
The licence matters more than it sounds. Commercial drone work in the United States requires FAA certification, and a building owner or contractor who commissions aerial photography from an uncertified operator is carrying that exposure themselves. Insurance is the second half of the same question.
Included in most shoots
Aerial is not a separate product I upsell. On most jobs it is included at no extra charge, whenever the airspace and the weather allow it — because a few frames from above are often what actually explains the building. The aerials portfolio is the proof of what that adds.
What aerial adds that ground level cannot
A building’s relationship to its site — how it sits against neighbours, how the parking and landscaping resolve, how the roof reads — is often invisible from the pavement. Aerial work is also the only practical way to photograph large horizontal projects: campuses, athletic facilities, airfields, landscape schemes.
Elevation is a continuum, not a switch. Some of the most useful frames are taken from thirty feet rather than three hundred, high enough to clear a hedge or a parked van and no higher.
Motion, not only stills
The drone shoots video as well as stills, and I can also generate motion from a still frame — a slow push or reveal built from a single 100MP capture. That is the same technique behind the construction time-lapse, and it is a low-cost way to give a project page or a pitch something that moves.
Scheduling
Drone work is weather-bound in a way ground photography is not. I wrote software that forecasts when conditions will suit a given site, which reduces the number of trips that produce nothing.
