From the ground this is just a nice campus corner. From directly overhead it’s a drawing. I flew straight down over the plaza and the paving does all the work — concentric rings of brick and pale banding radiating out from a central circle, walkways cutting through as spokes, trees dropping long shadows across the pattern, and neat panels of lawn squared off against the red brick. It’s the kind of geometry you can’t see standing in it; you have to get above it, which is exactly why the drone earns its place here.

The lead frame is a drone file, and the reason to go up wasn’t a wide hero of a building but this flattened, almost cartographic view of the landscape design itself. High summer light keeps the pattern clean and the color saturated.

Back at eye level I stayed for the golden hour, when the low sun rakes across the “VCU” letters set into an ivy green-wall, warms the brick behind them, and lights up the purple-leaf trees. Two scales of the same place — the plan from the air, the mood from the sidewalk.
