JMU Softball Stadium

Two of these came off the drone and one didn’t, and together they tell the stadium from three heights. Straight down over home plate, the field turns graphic: purple and gold base paths, the “DUKES” wall, the press-box banner counting off tournament runs, rows of empty purple seats in tidy diagonals. From higher and back, at last light, the whole park glows — the lights just kicked on, the outfield lit green, “JAMES MADISON SOFTBALL” along the fence, and the town of Harrisonburg running off toward the Massanutten ridge with one orange band of sunset left on the horizon.
That wide shot is a stitched panorama, several frames merged to hold both the near grandstand and the far mountains at a scale a single lens couldn’t. Blue hour is a narrow window for it — the sky has to still hold color while the field lights read — so it’s a forecasting-and-timing shot as much as a flying one.
Back on the ground I photographed the grandstand itself: warm brick piers, the exposed steel underside of the bleachers, purple uplighting against a deep cobalt sky.
