A stadium reads best from more than one height. At JMU’s softball stadium in Harrisonburg, straight down over home plate the field turns graphic, with purple and gold base paths and rows of seats in tidy diagonals. From higher and back at blue hour, the whole park glows with the lights just on. Back on the ground, the grandstand’s brick piers and the steel underside of the bleachers carry the rest.

Blue hour is a narrow window, so a photograph like that is as much forecasting and timing as flying. I am FAA-licensed and insured, and aerial is included on most jobs when airspace and weather allow.
