A general-aviation terminal lives on its relationship to the airfield, so I built the interiors around the windows. In the pilot lounge the blue leather chairs face a wall of glass that opens straight onto the fence line, the apron, and the taxiway beyond — sit down and you’re already watching for traffic. It was early March, the trees still bare, and the low sun came in hard and clean across the polished concrete.

The main hold room is the show: a warm wood-plank soffit runs out from the entry, then the ceiling lifts into exposed white bar-joist trusses with cylindrical pendants hung between them. Purple accent walls and a deep blue carpet keep it from feeling like a hangar. The reception desk anchors the arrival — a crisp white counter over wood, the name spelled out plainly in raised letters.

The challenge here is the one every terminal poses: the inside is dim and warm, the airfield outside is blindingly bright, and both have to be true in one frame. I bracketed for the range and blended the exposures so the runway stays visible through the glass without draining the light out of the room.
