This is a workplace interior that photographs itself around one idea: a tall column of pixelated light running up through the atrium like a shaft of falling snow. Everything else is arranged to lead your eye to it — the glass-railed mezzanines stacking up on either side, the booth seating with its monitors, the lime-green lounge chairs pulled into the foreground on patterned carpet.
I shot it head-on and dead-center so the two floors mirror each other and the light feature lands exactly on the axis. That symmetry only works if the verticals are truly vertical, which is most of the labor on a space like this — leveling the camera, then correcting the last fraction so the mullions and railings don’t lean.
The palette does a lot of the work: cool grays and whites for the architecture, then sharp hits of green and blue to keep it from going flat. Because the atrium mixes daylight from above, warm interior lighting, and that bright backlit column, I bracketed and blended the exposures so the highlights in the feature keep their detail without letting the seating fall into shadow.
