Much of what makes a healthcare building photograph well is timing. At Virginia Physicians for Women in North Chesterfield, I waited for a late-April dusk, when the west sky went peach and violet and the interior lights came up warm, and a straightforward two-story medical office became worth photographing. That is the payoff of forecasting conditions.

Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is personal work, photographed on my own account: a glass tower in blue and teal with slabs of orange, where the job was holding that color at full strength without letting the glass go flat.
