High-end homes ask more of a photograph than most buildings do. The materials are the point — the run of a stone wall, the joinery, the way a window frames a mountain — and a picture that flattens them undersells the whole project. This is architectural photography aimed squarely at luxury and destination residences, for the architects, builders, and owners behind them.
Why the camera matters here
I shoot on 100MP medium format with ultra-wide lenses. On a luxury home that resolution is the difference between a photograph that survives a full-bleed spread and one that falls apart the moment anyone looks closely at the detail. It also lets me hold a room and the view through its glass in a single frame — and on a destination house the view is often half the reason the house is there.
Where the work happens
Destination residences are, by definition, not around the corner. A good deal of this work happens where the landscape is the draw — I have photographed homes in Jackson, Wyoming, where the architecture and the setting are inseparable — and I travel for it as a matter of course. The scheduling software that waits for the right light matters even more when a trip is involved: there is no casual second visit.
